Are you looking for a deeper, richer, and more fulfilling connection to the divine? Prayer may be the key. In this blog post, I share my lifelong journey of connecting to the divine and how prayer has been a powerful tool in that process.
Whether you have a specific religion, spiritual belief, or none at all, I welcome you on this journey toward a deeper connection to the divine.
I call it prayer, but to me, it’s so much more than that. deeper, richer, and more fulfilling. I’ve yet to find a better word for it than simply connection.
I can remember clearly at 5, feeling divinely connected. That feeling has never left me since.
Oh sure, there have been days and months, even years where I didn’t feel worthy of the connection. But, knowing I was connected never left me.
At 5 the only words I had for it were the words taught by my church; God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost.
I vividly remember learning the Jesus Loves Me song in Sunday school. Not only did I learn it, but I digested it, marinated in it, and fully believe it… still to this day.
Over the years the words I use for this divine connection have adapted and grown. Some of my learning came from reading and other media. A great deal of it came from in-depth conversations with other people over coffee, tea, and even wine.
I personally don’t feel there’s a wrong way to connect to the divine or even a right or wrong word to use for it. One strong belief I have though is that everyone should have the freedom to connect to the divine, using the way and the words that resonate best with them.
This also means, opting not to believe in a higher power is equally ok. You do you!
A lifelong commitment to spirituality
I’m on a life-long journey of discovery and interest in all religions. I have a deep commitment to spirituality.
Even while traveling, I love to connect to the divine by visiting holy & sacred places of a variety of religions. I find peace, and serenity, sitting in prayer in these sacred places. I feel a deep connection to those that are with me there, to those that have been there before, and naturally to those yet to come. To walk on the ground with others that are equally connected and in awe is a beautiful thing.
My spirituality is sacred to me, my true essence of life. Spirituality to me is the space I hold for grace and awe and joy. It’s the openness to the unknown. The connectedness to all that is here was before and that is yet to come. It is beautiful and can be summed up in one word to me.
My spirituality is love.
You Are Welcome – As You Are
Whatever your spiritual beliefs, religion or even non-belief is, I honour you. I welcome you. I celebrate you in your journey and am happy our paths have crossed.
I am inspired by and take on a variety of beliefs and practices from various beliefs and religions. All are adopted with love and reverence. Any religious confusion written on this site is my own. I’m deeply committed to soul beautiful living and only wish you grace peace and love.
I use many words regarding the divine connection.
Divine, God, Jesus, Holy Ghost, Source, The Universe, Goddess, Love, Higher Self, Life Force, Universal Connection, She, He, They, GUS (God, Universe, Source).
I invite you to use your chosen words, including ones not listed here. Feel free to recommend any to me.
I live in harmony with the Tao. If truly pressed, my answer to what’s my religion is Taoism. Even though it’s not quite a religion and doesn’t exactly encompass all that is me.
I am also a Christian. All of the beauty of Christianity fits with me – I decry any of the parts of Christianity that are not inclusive and that look down on any other belief.

If you are seeking how to establish a deep connection, I recommend prayer as a start.
Prayer leads to the unfolding of endless possibilities – even ones beyond what you can dream up.
Thoughts On Prayer
Prayer doesn’t always involve dialogue – some of my strongest prayers were a feeling or a movement
“Thank-you” is a simple, yet divine, prayer
“Walk With Me” is the prayer I use often
“Om Mani Padme Hum” is a prayer mantra that I love to chant in meditation Here’s a youtube video of Monks repeating the mantra. I have meditated to this often over the years. -like obsessively often.
There is no wrong way to pray
- Please and thank-yous aren’t essential for communication with the divine
- Pausing to pray is a self-care activity
Prayer is simple and yet, so powerful and vast
~Cathy Ferringo
- Prayer is to allow for anything
- Prayer leads to connection
- Prayer is offering
- Prayer is celebrating
- Prayer is manifesting
- Prayer is hope
- Prayer is sharing
Your Turn – please share your thoughts
I’d love to hear from you. What’s your go-to prayer?
