[VIDEO] Ditch Your Pitch – Be Current & Stop Elevator Pitches

I’m not here to tell you how to do elevator pitches. If you’re seeking a how-to you’re in the wrong spot. I’m here to say stop – don’t do it.

Elevator pitches are old news. It is time to ditch your pitch.

We’ve all been taught that elevator pitches are needed for that slim chance you get to be able to pounce on someone to let them know how great you, your product, or your company are. (Heck, some even try to elevator pitch when it comes to dating.)

Show of hands- Who loves an elevator pitch?

Exactly. Almost no one likes them – so ditch them.

Stop doing pitches that feel awkward and icky to you.

Find your own flow instead.

Why do people still practice this uncomfortable speech? Where they list off all the details of who it’s for, how it works, what it does, why they need it from you and how will you get it done. Also crammed into a 30sec to 1 min speech of uncomfortable direct pitching.

Elevator pitches often come across as cold and unwanted.

Instead – Connect!

Be human, listen, connect, and create a genuine experience.

Take time to enjoy the few moments you have with that person.

Go ahead – ask them questions, and listen to their answers. Answer their questions and ask them more.

Give them a glimpse of your behind-the-scenes.

Share a meaningful moment with them.

Use your own language style, speak as you are, where you are.

Times have changed, people now do business with people that they know, like, and trust, rather than someone that can rattle off a well-rehearsed pitch.

Stop vomiting elevator pitches at people instead, choose to connect with them!

The only exception is if you are asked to give a pitch.

One of my favourite questions to ask a candidate during a job interview is “Why you, why you over anyone else?” Go ahead and pitch then. Pitch with all your heart and soul, when asked in an interview or a presentation.

Otherwise, stop it! Ditch these awkward conversations.

Need permission to ditch your pitch? This is it!

Look, I even wrote it out for you.

Wishing you the very best positive connections in all your conversations.
